Beyond Shadowing:
A Virtual Clinical Education
A Virtual Clinical Education
It can be difficult to accumulate the shadowing hours needed to get accepted into medical school. That’s why we collaborated with more than 20 of the world’s best doctors to give you a behind-the-scenes look at practically every specialty.
Take a Look at the Life of an Ophthalmologist.
See into the world of eye care with our ophthalmology shadowing module. Whether you are planning to pursue this field, or you’re simply interested in learning more, this is the course for you.
During ophthalmology shadowing you will follow James Kelly MD. Dr. Kelly is an ophthalmologist in New York City where he treats patients with a wide variety of conditions related to the eye. He earned both his undergraduate and medical degrees at Georgetown University and went on to a residency in ophthalmology at North Shore/Long Island Jewish. Since then, Dr. Kelly has been involved in taking care of patients and also guiding students interested in medical school.
In his daily life as an ophthalmologist, Dr. Kelly treats a large number of eye pathologies including glaucoma, macular degeneration, and diabetic retinopathy. In this session, Dr. Kelly discusses other eye disorders including cataracts and strabismus and explains several treatments including medications, lasers, and surgery. He mentions that a large number of ophthalmologists further specialize to allow them to take care of the intricacies related to the eye as best as possible. While Dr. Kelly mainly works in the clinic, some ophthalmologists spend much of their time performing surgeries in the operating room such as cataracts, LASIK, and retinal surgery.
In his free time, Dr. Kelly likes traveling and rooting for his favorite sports teams, including the Giants, Mets, and the Georgetown Hoyas.
With ophthalmology shadowing through the Virtual Clinical Education Series you will learn about the daily life of an anesthesiologist, and earn a Certificate of Completion that you’ll be able to add to your medical school application and resume. By the end of the session with Dr. Kelly you will be able to answer questions, such as:
